Credit Card Balance Transfer Revisited
Posted by desbtsettlementscams
Credit card balance transfers are one of the financial world’s great empowering features, but they can only be done successfully if you follow the rules and don’t fall foul of them. Firstly you must consider the benefits, then the pitfalls. These two aspects are more or less permanent features of the credit card balance transfer system.
The benefits can be summarised as the product of a twofold strategy:
You can transfer credit card balances once the initial interest free period is up to another card, and so continue your interest free credit.
You can more or less plan to do this in advance as long as you have a way of finding new cards to transfer to, and you stay in control of your finances and spending.
Taking these two together – the transfers and the planning – you can aim to give yourself interest free credit for a long time, even interest free credit for years.
The pitfalls are as follows, and must be considered carefully. These are:
Overshooting the Interest Free period
This is a crucial and fundamental issue. There is no point taking out a card with a known zero interest period or low interest period if you just go and breach that time period. Check the date that the interest free allotment ends, and then backtrack by about ten days before then. Ten days is about the right time to apply for a new card. Remember that the application itself will take time, and that this time will vary from card to card. Take into account seasonal changes in the speed and effectiveness of the mail delivery. In the run up to Christmas, for example, it would be wise to allow two weeks.
Minimum Repayment Obligations
Remember to check on what your agreed monthly repayment arrangements are. You may have to pay back a certain percentage (three percent or more, depending on the card) or risk incurring minimum payment fees. This is true even if it occurs within the interest free period, as the credit card provider will want to know that you can at least maintain a minimum repayment to justify the confidence in you when you originally signed up. On some cards, however, such an arrangement may not apply.
Late Payment Obligations
Much the same as above, but this time the emphasis is on paying within a certain time per month. Again, the card issuer may want some kind of assurance that money will be repaid even though interest is not being charged. There will be an extra fee charged if your payment is late, and for small balances this may well be proportionally higher than the interest which would otherwise have been payable (if the charge is a lump sum, as is usually the case). If this arrangement exists, then the best policy is to pay the minimum the same day as you get the statement.
Annual Fees
Remember to check the small print before you apply for the card. This may include information about an annual fee, which is the fee that the issuer will charge you every year for using their credit card. By no means all credit cards have an annual fee, but you must remember to build this in to the total cost of using the card. Things like annual fees tend to muddy the APR figures, which would otherwise give a good indication of how much your credit card actually costs. It is therefore an important factor to consider when deciding which credit card is the right one for you.
Exceeding Your Credit Limit
Whatever you do, don’t exceed the credit limit that you agreed and signed up for at the time you applied for the card. If you do this then you will probably be charged (depending on the card supplier) a percentage or a flat fee. This would be particularly reckless, as it would go against everything that you set out to do in the first place, namely to gain a fixed amount of credit without paying any interest on it!
Of the above five negative factors to be considered, it is always best to think of them all together, as each of them may impact in different proportions depending on the credit card and lender. For example, one card may not charge annual fees, but will come down very heavy on late payment charges; while another card will be lenient about an overextended credit limit but will offset this with a fixed annual charge.
It is possible to meet the criteria of the first two positive benefits, as well as avoid all the pitfalls by careful timing. As long as you transfer your credit card balances in a timely fashion, and observe the rules of the transfer itself, you cannot go wrong. Always remember that there are more credit cards out there to transfer your balances to.

Credit Card Charges Set To Fall

Credit Card Bills ? Read Them Carefully
Posted by desbtsettlementscams
Many people fail to read the fine print when applying for credit cards. Even after they are approved, many people also fail to carefully read their statements. This could lead to disaster, as many credit card companies put clauses in the contracts which allow them to raise your interest rate for many different reasons. The fine print on a credit card document can be hard to read and tedious, and it is no accident that it was designed this way. Credit card companies make billions off the ignorance of their customers.
Back To School!
Even though the language used on credit card documents is complex, it is important that you understand it. It is something you agree to, and you don’t want to agree to something you don’t understand. Most credit card companies don’t have your best interests in mind, and this is why it is important to protect yourself. Most people are under the false assumption that credit card companies will only raise interest rates when you are late making your payments. Unfortunately, this is far from the truth.
Who Needs More Credit Card Debt?
With the average American family owing $10,000 in credit card debt, the industry is one of the most profitable in the world. As the minimum monthly payments are increased, this will insure that the credit card industry earns billions of dollars each year. The new bankruptcy law making it harder for people to get out of financial trouble will insure that the losses suffered by the credit card companies will be greatly reduced.
Save Your Credit Report
Many credit card companies will look at your credit report for any negative information. If they find it the interest rate on your credit card will be increased, often without your notification. Unless you read your bill carefully, you will probably not notice. Negative things on your credit report could be far more than just late payments. Bankruptcy or other problems may also be used as a pretext to increase the interest rate on your credit card. Your interest rate could be raised for something as frivolous as having too many accounts, or having too high of a balance.
This is unfair to the customer. Your interest rate shouldn’t be raised for something that has nothing to do with your credit card. If you find yourself in this situation, the first thing you want to do is call your credit card company and demand that the interest rate be lowered. If you are making your payments on time, the company has no reason not to lower it. If they refuse you should switch to another company. The market is highly competitive, and you shouldn’t have to stick with a company which raises the interest rate for any reason.
Keep Your Credit Report Up to Date
You should also check your credit report on a regular basis. It may have errors on it which can cause your interest rate to increase. It is also important to carefully read your credit card statement each month. If you see something which looks strange, immediatley call your credit card company to ask about it. When you apply for a credit card, read the contract carefully and ask about the interest rate and what causes it to increase.
Credit card companies make large amounts of money from people who don’t read their bills or contracts. It is your responsibility to make sure the information on your bill is accurate and correct. Credit card companies are prone to making mistakes, and will put clauses in their agreements which allows them to earn more money from their customers. It is important to check your information carefully to make sure there are no errors.

Credit Card Debt Freedom Is Possible

Credit Card Debt – Do You Feel Frustrated
Posted by desbtsettlementscams
If you’re one of those people who like to “charge it” to their plastic, chances are you’ve piled up a mountain of debt. And like most people who have spent their way into a financial corner, are probably don’t have the money to pay off your debt.
Credit card debt is a serious problem – a problem that won’t just simply go away on its own. Unfortunately, many people compound their financial problems by doing just that – ignoring it, because it’s such a scary and humbling experience to face it head on.
This is unfortunately a bad thing considering that people who are in debt need to snap back to their senses and assess whatever it is that they’ve still going for them and be ready to face their debt no matter how overwhelming a problem it appears to be.
Ok, it’s time to get real and face the cold, hard reality that you’ve stumbled a bit and now it’s time to pick up the pieces. Not fun, but the sooner you start the sooner the oppressive weight of debt can be lifted from you life and you can go back to living again.
Clearly, the first step is stop using your credit cards to buy stuff. Give them a rest for goodness sakes, exercise a little discipline and go back to only buying stuff you can afford, which of course translates into paying for things the old-fashioned way – with cash.
Surrendering your credit cards won’t be easy, especially for shopaholics like yourself, but then again if you would simply remind yourself that if you don’t do something soon you debt will balloon out of control and before you know it you’ll be filing for bankruptcy. It’s like the old car commercial that talked about getting your oil changed and doing a little preventive maintenance. The tag line was something like: “you can pay me now or pay me later” with the clear implication that you exercise a little discipline now (preventive maintenance) or pay me later (a much costlier bill like a new engine).
On the other hand, excessively high credit card debt, no matter how much it actually is, is not the end of the world – although it feels like it. A lot of people who have had the same problem have been given a second “financial” life after they stopped irresponsibly using credit cards. Of course, they also put in the effort to setup a budget and prioritized paying off their and changed their spending habits to better reflect their income and most importantly – they did something completely foreign – they started to actually spend less than they made. So you see, all is definitely not lost but it will take some effort.
Once you decide to start taking financial responsibility it’s time to take action. Be friendly with your creditors and by friendly I mean asking for their advice on how you can restructure your debt into a plan that you can actually afford without having to starve yourself for years and don’t be afraid to ask for a big reduction in the interest you’re being charged and a little “forgiveness” in the amount of debt you owe – 50% reduction is good target.
Knowing that you’re actually interested in taking responsibility for your credit card debt shows a lot of maturity on your part and your creditors will most probably be more than happy to help you out because 50% of whatever you owe at a lower interest rate is better than the hope of getting 100% of nothing – as in you filing for bankruptcy. Not that bankruptcy will eliminate all your debt, it won’t but this is not only a hassle for you it’s also a big hassle for your creditors.
Although your creditors won’t give you the money to pay for your credit card debt, they can educate you in what you really need to know about fixing your finances: From learning how to discipline yourself from overspending, having a monthly budget as well keeping track of one’s expenses is extremely important. If you don’t know these things it’s nearly impossible to exhibit proper financial responsibility and to bit the bullet and make the necessary changes.
Once you’ve finally been given a fresh start with regards to your financial life, don’t even think of falling back to your same old habits ever again. If your job doesn’t let you enjoy some of life’s luxuries then you better make a choice between having a lifestyle change or finding a better paying job or getting a second job. You have to make sure that your income, no matter how much it is, is more than you’re spending.
Remember, credit cards are not the problem; it’s your lack of discipline. Learn to exercise discipline and having a credit card or two is not a bad idea. Just be sure to payoff the balances each month and only use them as an alternative to always having to carry around a bunch of cash.

Credit Card Balance Transfer ? How To Use It To Your Advantage
Posted by desbtsettlementscams
A credit card balance transfer is not right for everyone. Just like most of the options in the world of finance there are some definite benefits to getting your own balance transfer credit card as well as some pretty significant downsides. The key to success with any kind of balance transfer or any other financial product or service is to first learn all that you can about that particular subject before you can understand how to use it to your advantage. Never jump into getting a balance transfer credit card without all the facts, this is where so many people end up in hot water, they leap before they look and when it comes to money that is always a bad combination.
The benefits of a balance transfer are great in many cases. For example who doesn?t want to be able to switch the balance from one credit card with high interest to one with no interest at all? That is exactly what you can do when you have a new credit card that is still enjoying its interest free period. Of course if you do not have one of these you may simply want to perform the credit card balance transfer in order to enjoy a lower interest rate. This can save you thousands of dollars a year if you are looking at a significant amount of credit card debt.
There is a growing movement of consumers who are getting credit card after credit card so that they can constantly perform balance transfers. This is easy to do as all you need is to make sure that you are approved for a new credit card when the interest free period of your old one runs out, ensuring that you can simply perform a credit card balance transfer to the new card and once again enjoy paying no interest. Sounds easy, right?
This kind of balance transfer is straightforward and anyone can do it if they have a halfway decent credit rating. And if you can control your spending habits it might even be a good idea as the balance transfer credit cards will allow you a nice amount of breathing room and the time you need to start paying off the principle rather than just the interest on your loan. If on the other hand, you are like most people and you find it hard to not spend money when you can, then a credit card balance transfer is probably not the best solution for you.
There is nothing more difficult than curbing spending. If you have the available space on your credit card, are you going to be able to say no to those wonderful jeans you saw in the store window? What about that fantastic stereo you just saw the other day? Can you resist them? You must be able to if you want to use this technique of avoiding interest with credit card balance transfers. If you are in doubt then find another way!
More and more balance transfer credit cards are hitting the market today because the industry is recognizing what a powerful tool balance transfers can be for consumers. Everyone wants to save some money and the sad fact is that it can be very difficult, especially since having credit cards makes it so easy to spend more than we actually have. A credit card, especially a balance transfer credit card, can be a powerful weapon in your financial management toolbox; you just need to know your limits and your weaknesses. That is the only way to avoid trouble with balance transfers.
A credit card balance transfer could be your saving grace; then again perhaps it is the wrong solution for you. The only way that you can be sure is to learn all you can about the credit card balance transfer process and all of its pros and cons.

IVA & Debt Management Plan Is The Way Getting Out Of Debt
Posted by desbtsettlementscams
It?s a question many of us ask ourselves particularly in the current recession. There has been a huge growth in personal indebtedness in the last ten years. Most people feel that credit cards are largely to blame but in reality the blame must lie with those of us who borrowed too much money and the credit industry which extended too much credit to us. Neither borrowers nor lenders paid sufficient regard to our ability to repay our debts.
If you want to get out of debt this can depend on many factors: the amount of our debts; how much we earn; our assets; our standard of living, our living costs and those of our family. Where we live might also be a factor. Pity those who live in the Republic of Ireland for example. Find yourself in serious debt there and it can be a life sentence. The bankruptcy laws are so outdated that very few people are bankrupted there anymore. The cost of bankruptcy is prohibitive and the procedure is rightly regarded as complex and bureaucratic. The option of an Individual Voluntary Arrangement or iva is not available in Ireland either. Successive Irish governments have failed to act to provide such a solution fully twenty three years after it was introduced in the UK. Having said that there might be a way to deal with your Insolvency outside of Ireland and we will return to this at the end of the article.
Get out of debt | Ireland
The only real option available in Ireland is to agree a Debt Management Plan (DMP) with your creditors. You can get debt advice from MABS the government funded Money Advice and Budgeting Service in setting up such a plan. Alternatively, you can use a specialist Debt Management provider to set up and manage your DMP. For a fee such a provider can negotiate with your creditors and make your monthly payments to them on a pro rata basis. You simply make one affordable monthly payment and the provider distributes this money between your creditors. The charge for such a service varies from one provider to the next, so you should shop around to get the best value. There are downsides to a DMP. For a start it can last indefinitely and it would not be unusual for a DMP to last ten years. There is no guarantee that your creditors will agree to freeze interest or penalties. Furthermore, your creditors can take legal action against you at any time. This is because there is inadequate legislation governing the operation of debt management plans. From a creditors? point of view however, they can expect to recover all of the debts in time.
Get out of Debt | UK, Wales, Scotland & Northern Ireland
If you live in England, Wales or Northern Ireland you can also enter a DMP but you also have additional options. The Bankruptcy legislation there has been simplified in recent years and you can be discharged from bankruptcy in just one year. You may however be subject to an income payments order for up to three years. Downsides in bankruptcy are that you lose control of your assets such as your house. For some, bankruptcy may spell the end of their careers. For many, the perceived social stigma of bankruptcy is a major issue, although in reality this is not as devastating as it was historically. The big downside for creditors is that bankruptcy provides a very poor return and they often receive nothing. In Scotland, Sequestration is the name given to bankruptcy and the relevant legislation differs somewhat.
English, Welsh and Northern Ireland citizens have a further legally controlled solution available to them in the form of an Individual Voluntary Arrangement (IVA). Some of the advantages are that interest and penalties on your debts are frozen; the IVA will usually last just five years, although the term may be shorter or occasionally a little longer; you avoid bankruptcy; you will usually be able to keep your house and car although you might have to address any equity therein during the term of your IVA; creditors will receive a much greater return for the monies you borrowed from them compared to what they would receive in bankruptcy; all legal action is stopped and you are debt free on the successful completion of the term of your IVA. There are downsides to an IVA also. Under the legislation you must use the services of an Insolvency Practitioner (IP). Fees for these services are deducted from the monies you contribute to repay your creditors. However, your creditors will have agreed these fees up front so there are no surprises for you the debtor or the creditors. The five year term is long compared to the three years during which you might have to make income payments in bankruptcy but is considerably shorter than the usual duration of a DMP. If your IVA should fail during its term, creditors are again free to pursue you for the full unpaid balances and the protection you enjoyed in the IVA would cease. In Scotland a Protected Trust Deed would be regarded as the equivalent of an IVA, although the relevant legislation differs somewhat.
Under EU insolvency legislation introduced in 2002 i.e. Council regulation (EC) No 1346/2000, it might be possible to seek and obtain a solution for your insolvency in another EU member state. For example, an Irish citizen might be able to enter an IVA or petition for bankruptcy in England, Wales or Northern Ireland. To do this the debtor would have to be able to show that his ?centre of main interests? is in that other member state. The regulation states that ?the centre of main interests? should correspond to the place where the debtor conducts the administration of his interests on a regular basis and is therefore ascertainable by third parties?
If you are insolvent and you think that your circumstances meet these requirements and you want to consider this option, you should obtain independent legal advice.

Credit Card Rebates ? How They Work
Posted by desbtsettlementscams
Simply put, a credit card rebate is a cash reward a credit card company gives you for using their card. In terms of how the card actually works, the company that issues the rebate credit card charges the vendor from whom you make the purchase. You make the purchase from that vendor because you are getting cash back through your rebate credit card. The credit card company shares its earnings from vendor tie-ups with you, and thus attracts more customers. So everyone benefits.
Types of Rebate Credit Cards
There are a number of different rebate credit cards that cater to different types of people. The credit card rebate that works for Jack may not work for Jill. Or in starker terms, one mans meat is another mans poison. Some rebate credit cards are tailored for businessmen. Some credit cards give very high rebates up to 5% through certain programs. If you find that you fit into that program, and the purchases you normally make are in line with those offered by that program, you stand to save a lot of money
Again if you are a doting mother who just can?t get enough toys for her kids, you can find a credit card that gives you rebates every time you do that. A certain rebate credit card would be perfect for someone who couriers frequently. Such a person should find a credit card that gives him rebates on payments to a courier company.
Some rebate credit cards can give you up to 10% in credit card rebates on certain purchases for a specified period. If you fit in there, you stand to save a bundle!
But how do you find the card that fits in with your needs? The Internet is a good place to start with some of the best rebate credit cards available with a few clicks of the mouse. A little homework can save you money where you never imagined it could.
Credit card rebates offer an advantage to frequent flier miles. You can use the rebates as you want. The rebate credit card can also be an important money management tool which will benefit you for years to come. To benefit the most, take your long term needs into account when choosing your rebate credit card. Be specific to your financial needs. If necessary you can even use two rebate credit cards to take advantage of two bundles of offerings.
Check the Details
Always remember to check for the APR offered by the credit card, as well as the annual fee. There are numerous offers available for rebate credit cards at 0% APR for 12 months and no annual fee for clients with very good credit. Also read the fine print, including the method of calculation. Some methods of calculation prove more expensive at the same interest rate. Remember, your rebate credit card is a tool to use your money wisely. By first choosing the correct tool and then using it well, you can save hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars in credit card rebates.

Credit Card Rebates & Rewards
Posted by desbtsettlementscams
Rebate credit cards have proven recently to be a great favorite among consumers. Credit card rebates could mean you?re getting discounts whenever you use your rebate credit card for purchasing items of any kind for that matter.
Credit card rebates are similar to cash back credit cards with which you could accumulate points towards a rebate structure. This is based on how much the card is used over a period of time and depending on the different kinds of rebates and promotional offers that are awarded on the rebate credit cards in question. Typical credit card rebates include gasoline rebates, entertainment rebates, store discounts for specialty store cards etc?
Some credit card rebates, however, require annual fees varying by the card providers. You should pay attention to compare annual fees and interests before you set your heart on a particular rebate credit card. Credit card rebates are given for making purchases with your credit card. The more you use the cards the better rebates and cash rewards you get. But keep in mind that these rebates exclude interest and finance charges. Some cards offer a higher credit card rebate with increased usage while still others offer higher credit card rebates at selected stores or partners only.
Credit card rebates could be earned in many ways right from your everyday grocery-shopping, to purchasing the latest fashion, or even by linking your credit card with other cards. For example, with gas prices at record levels, gas rebate cards are the hottest credit card rebates on the current market. The credit card rebates have few strings attached and offer appreciable savings; with an average credit score, credit card rebates are a true value. Some rebate credit cards directly deposit rebates into your savings account. Depending on the types of the credit cards and the varying providers, the rebate amount differs.
Bear in mind to always be aware that the average APR depends on your credit history. Unless you maintain good credit history paying your bills each month, you may end up spending your credit card rebate and then some in higher interest costs. Be aware of all the possible restrictions while using the credit card rebates; as I?ve mentioned earlier, read the ?fine print?. Also understand the limits on how much rebate you can get back from your rebate credit cards annually. Most credit cards require as well that in order to get your full rebates, you have to go by the primary policies of the credit card that you apply for. The credit card companies spend millions in marketing efforts to get new customers, so take good advantage of the competition by shopping around for the best interest rate in the credit card rebates.
A credit card is a financial tool that is more convenient to use and carry than cash that offers valuable consumer protections under federal law. Equally, it is also a major responsibility to use carefully, not ending up owing more than you can repay, damaging the credit rating or creating problems difficult to fix. Shop around and compare the annual percentage rate, grace period, annual fees, transaction fees, other charges and other credit card benefits to get the best credit card deal before you make your decision would be a smart choice, as credit cards often come with a lot of ?fine print?.
As such, as with any credit card, the card issuer has all rights to change the fees and features, as well as rebates on any short notice. The credit card rebates usually last only for a limited time and apply only to certain regions or merchants or purchases. If you decide to get a rebate credit card, be sure find a renowned provider for the best customer service and reliability.
